Ittefaq was charged with defamation

By Jahangir Alam Akash, The oldest national Bengali daily newspaper Ittefaq was charged with defamation.
A defamation case was filed on 29th September, 2009 against the top four officials of the Daily Ittefaq including one of the owners Barrister Mainul Hosein and editor Rahat Khan. Source: the New Age, 30.9.2009
Sources said, Two businessmen, Shawkat Ali Khan Bipul and Haider Ali Khan Bulbul, also brothers, filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.The two other defendants are publisher of the daily Saju Hosein and reporter Zamiul Ahsan Shipu. Metropolitan magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque will hear the case on 30th September, 2009.
The case details say a story the daily carried on September 16 headlined, ‘Terrorism in Mirpur, 125 enlisted by RAB’ called the brothers ‘terrorists’. The complainant of the case told his case brief that, the report was ‘totally wrong, planned and defamatory’.
